Beginners Patchwork ~ six week course

This course is aimed at those who have a basic knowledge of sewing.

Week 1

Introduction and H&S when using tools & equipment.

We will be making a nine patch block this uses basic skills – accurate cutting, measuring and ¼”seams – these are essential for creating patchwork

Week 2

Quick triangles – a quick and easy way of creating half square & quarter square triangles without working on bias fabric edges. We will complete another block using these.

Week 3

English paper piecing – Hexagons & Tumbling blocks using a traditional hand sewing method. We will complete a sample piece which can be added to a block

Week 4

Fused Appliqué – basic appliqué using bondaweb to create a simple finished block – stitching can be done by hand or machine

Weeks

 5 & 6

Adding borders & starting to quilt. We will add borders to previously made blocks and then layer using batting & backing ready for quilting.

Quilting can be done by hand or machine and basic techniques will be covered. We will then apply binding to a finished sample block.

All blocks will be 12” finished size before borders are added – these can then be used to create a set of cushions or as the basis for your first quilt.
